Move-out cleaning often feels like a bigger job than it actually is, as long as it’s broken into clear parts. This list works through a flat room by room, so nothing important gets missed — whether you’re doing the clean yourselves or checking a professional’s work afterwards.
Kitchen
- Cabinets emptied and wiped inside and out
- Hob, oven and oven door glass cleaned
- Extractor hood grease filter washed or replaced
- Fridge and freezer empty, defrosted and wiped down
- Sink and tap area cleaned of limescale and stains
- Worktops and the tiles between cabinets wiped down
- Bin emptied and wiped
Bathroom and toilet
- Shower walls, tiles and grout cleaned
- Floor drain cleaned and the water trap checked
- Toilet, basin and taps descaled
- Mirrors and cabinets wiped down
- Area around the washing machine and dryer cleaned, lint filter emptied
Bedrooms and living room
- Cabinets and wardrobes emptied and wiped inside
- Floors vacuumed and washed, including under furniture
- Windows and windowsills washed
- Light switches, sockets and skirting boards wiped down
- Ceiling lights and fixtures dusted
Storage, hallway and corridors
- Coat hooks, shoe racks and wardrobes emptied
- Any attic or cellar storage unit emptied and cleaned
- Hallway floor and mirror cleaned
- Corridor skirting boards and door frames wiped down
Balcony and outdoor areas
- Balcony or terrace floor swept and washed
- Railings and glass wiped down
- Any plants or furniture either removed or left only if that’s been specifically agreed
Shared and final steps
- All personal belongings removed from the flat
- Rubbish removed, including any bulky items sent for recycling
- Door and window keys gathered for handover
- The flat aired out before the inspection
